Boarding Schools in the UK – Who cares for you?
Posted on |
Boarding Schools in the UK have a network of support you can utilise while studying in the UK.
When you come to Boarding School in the UK, you are not left alone to be completely independent, although this is encouraged. You will find that there is not just the academic support but strong pastoral support too.
The staff in boarding schools naturally give strong support outside of lessons as well as within them. They care deeply about your future and your learning and will always give you time to support you as you need it.
So, who is there to help you?
Your Guardian – he/she will be there to support you from afar and within school terms when you need it. Your Guardian will arrange homestays, transport and will attend parent evenings or check on you to ensure you are alright and enjoying yourself. He/she is the person to turn to when you need someone or something away from the school. Your Guardian will also pop in and out of the school from time to time to meet with you and check you are doing well.
Teachers – they will ensure you are assessed regularly, taught in a stimulating environment and will recognise when there are gaps in your knowledge.
Tutors – they will be teachers within your school environment who have been allocated to you to support you and collate your progress. They will give you tailored support and time to talk about any issues or concerns you may have.
Your Boarding Staff – there are many names for the boarding staff who will care for you in your residential home during term times: Housemasters and mistresses, Houseparents are a few of the names along with the House Teams, comprising of Matrons, Assistants, sometimes some Gap students and of course the support team including cleaners etc. All these people will be there for you and will check on your wellbeing and happiness at school.
